Single bed sizes
Single bed sizes: standard, king size, reduced, guide and useful tips
Paying attention to the size of the bed is one of the main aspects to take into consideration, as the double bed also boasts the possibility of different sizes.
The size of the mattress is vital for proper rest, especially if it is too small it may not guarantee the correct comfort with consequences on the back and cervical tract.
Single bed, how big is it?
Let’s cut to the chase, the standard single bed size, king size and maxi size:
- Standard single bed: 80×190 / 195 / 200 cm
- Large single bed: 90×190 / 195 / 200 cm
- Maxi single bed: 100×190 / 195 / 200 cm
As can be seen, the width of a single mattress varies from 80 cm to 100 cm, while the length of a single bed starts at 190 cm but can go up to 200 cm in the large version.
How to choose a single bed?
The size of a single bed, as we have seen, is very important for proper rest. The first consideration to be made is therefore the height of the person who will usually use it, also bearing in mind those relating to the bed base and slats.
The dimensions of the mattress must fit well with those of the slats and those of the bed frame for a mainly aesthetic question.
Once the dimensions have been chosen, we can pay attention to the type of mattress, on which the quality of our sleep depends; on the market you will find numerous models: traditional spring mattresses, latex mattresses, memory foam, orthopaedic.
Measurements of upholstered single beds
Another consideration to make is the size of the bed frame, which increases the footprint by 10 – 20 cm compared to the mattress, for example an upholstered bed can be 120 cm wide and 220 cm long, these measurements vary depending on the model and the type of padding.
For example, a bed with a headboard takes up more space than u single sommier bed, the same applies if we decide to buy a single bed with a canopy.
Standing height of a single bed
The height from the floor of a single bed depends mainly on the type of bed frame and that of the mattress; we recommend a minimum height from the floor of 60 cm for proper rest, bearing in mind that the height of a standard mattress is 18 cm.
The height also varies depending on the age of the person using it. Naturally, if we are talking about small children, the height should not exceed 40 – 50 cm, to prevent possible falls from causing damage to health.
